Greetings! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in the mental health field. I have both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Social Work. I have held numerous positions throughout the years; I have been an investigator for Child Protective Services in New York City and North Carolina, a case manager for unhoused women with mental health and substance use issues, and an in-home therapist for families; to name a few. In addition, I provided therapy to survivors of Intimate Partner Violence for over 10 years, and I currently provide clinical services to incarcerated men in a close-custody prison. Although the populations that I worked with often presented with different challenges, one commonality stood out: the majority of them were Black and other people of color who had experienced racism, discrimination, trauma and a host of other mental health issues. They were very hesitant to seek help due to the social stigma surrounding mental health and therapy. Many of them stated they had difficulty trusting the mental health care system. Soul Wellness Services was created to address this issue.
I provide a safe, nonjudgmental, culturally sacred environment to help facilitate my client’s healing. My belief regarding therapy is that the client possesses the power to change, and that it is my role to help the client become aware of how to utilize that power and guide them through the process. My treatment approach prioritizes people over diagnosis.
I work from a strength-based, culturally sensitive, trauma informed perspective and my primary approach to therapy is an integration of person-centered, mindfulness-based, and cognitive behavioral therapies. My goal is to de-stigmatize mental health treatment and help my community heal, one person at a time.
